Visits with Don and Drivers Other ways to help Ruth include offering to drive and assist her when she goes shopping, do housecleaning or take her out to lunch, dinner or a show. Twice a week Don needs a ride to his doctor for his holistic IV Treatments. See below for detailed Job Descriptions. |

He has a team of skilled CNAs to help him get in and out of bed, shower, shave, etc. However, if you are a CNA or home helper, he often needs skilled assistants to fill in for vacations or sickness. The more people trained to meet Don's special needs the better!

Cooks are need to prepare the Bone Broth which is the basis of his diet. He needs 1/2 gallon a day and it takes 12 hours to brew. See the Bone Broth Recipe below. Organic leafy green vegetables are the second most important part of his diet. We welcome any contributions from your organic garden! |

| Job Descriptions Respite Volunteer - Will be trained to operate Don's power wheelchair, feed him his snack and help manage Don's saliva. Can visit at home with Don or go for walks together. Maybe be asked to do some light chores such as wash dishes, fill water bottles, or fold laundry. Driver - Will be trained to operate Don's power wheelchair, wheel Don up and down the ramp into (and out of) his handicap assessible van, how to drive for Don's comfort as well as recommended routes for less bumpy streets. Drive distance for regular IV Treatments is from northwestern Fort Collins (near Poudre High School) to Prospect and Timberline. Driver waits and visits with Don during treatments. Takes about 4 hours, so driver will be trained to give Don his afternoon snack.
CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant, certified in Colorado.

Bone Broth Recipe
Enough Bones to cover bottom of a large pot
Put all in a big pot. Cover with pure water. Bring to boil for 10 minutes. Simmer a minimum of 12 hours. Add water as needed.
Cool until fat forms at top and remove fat. Roughly strain and freeze in plastic 1/2 gallon containers for future use. |
